MASSA LUBRENSE-PENISOLA SORRENTINA

SEA OF ULYSSES LAND OF THE SIRENS……….

Description of the territory and the walks

Massa Lubrense is virtually triangular in shape – its north – eastern side borders with Sorrento, whilst the other two sides are formed by the Gulf of Salerno and the Bay of Naples , with Punta Campanella at its tip , facing the island of Capri , just 5 km away.

This is one of few areas in Italy, where in such relatively small corner of land , agriculture provides not only a setting for its natural beauty, but also a range of high –quality of products such as lemons , with particularly strong aroma ,utilised as the main ingredient of limoncello of Sorrento, to be found at all the best tables in the world .In the higher areas oil trees abound ;these have always grown here , as their age testifies. It is sad that in Greek times sacrifices were made to the Goddess Minerva using local oil. The oil produced here has a characteristic taste and aroma with distinguish it and give it its high market value, in fact The European Community recognises this product as Denomination of Protect Origin thanks to its unique qualities, as many other products as cheeses or others liquors……

It is a perfect place for a long walks ,which will take You through lemon and olives groves , along mule tracks and footpaths ,through copses of chestnut and oak trees to reach ancient villages, vast uninhabited areas submerged in thick Mediterranean vegetation , lime cliffs dropping steeply down the sea , Saracen watchtowers ,archaeological remains and scenic breathtaking viewpoints .

Even the most expert excursionist used to the beauties of the mountains trails with their snowy peaks and verdant valleys cannot fail to be enchanted by these vast panoramas where the sea and the mountains merge offering magnificent views of the Lattari mountains , the Bay of Naples , and the Gulf of Salerno with their islands and rocks.

You can't miss it !!! .
