CAPRI

The island jewel of the gulf, famous all over the world for the Blue Cave, the Faraglionis, the stupendous flora, the very beautiful panorama, the delicious climate in all the seasons.
Preserve fascinating testimonies of his far past, rests of the boundaries of fortification of the Greek acropolis (There-V sec. a.C.), the Baths of Tiberio, the Villa Iovis (building of Tiberio) and the Tower of the Lighthouse.
The most recent architecture is represented from the Chartreuse of St. Giacomo (1371) with small cloister and great cloister (' 400 and' 500), and from the Parish one of S. Stephen (century XVII) that it leans out its Baroque forms on the coquettish and famous one "piazzetta."
He/she understands two Communes: Capri and Anacapri. Here the Church of St. Michael they are interesting, built in 1719 on sketch of the Vaccaro; the Villa S. Michael, built on ruins of Roman age by the physician and writer Axel Munthe (magnificent garden and stupendous sight of the image from Ponza to the Appennino and Calabria) and the Roman Imperial Villa, ruins of imposing archaeological structure.

A great deal interesting the variety of the typical Mediterranean flora.

The small plaza is all dam and harvest as a courtyard.
It is surrounded from the Tower of the clock, perhaps bell tower of the ancient cathedral, from the city public offices (situated in the places of the ex Episcopalian building) and from shops and coffee; her ago from scene the picturesque left side of the church of S. Stefano.
The plaza already had to make part of the primitive nucleus lived of Capri (V-IV sec. a.C.), as they would testify some lines of boundaries in blocks of limestone, part in square work, part in the most ancient technique of the work pseudopoligonale, visible from the extremity of the terrace of the funicular, incorporated between houses and boundaries medioevali, on the side Northeast of the inhabited area. With another building line to the strata of the Castiglione and others destroyed since the Roman epoch, they formed the imposing surrounded strengthened of the Greek acropolis.
Around the plaza it grows thick the district medioevale, of notable historical-urbanistic interest, characterized by a tangle of tortuous little roads.

The German magnate Krupp financed in 1900. the construction of a pedestrian road that united the Hotel Quisisana, resided where, to the beach Marina Piccola.
Realized in admirable way by the ingegner Emilio Mayer, it has been defined "the most beauti ful road of the world" for it extraordinary adherence to the rock to which takes root and for the correct use of the local construction materials.

Gardens of August
They belonged to the ownerships of Friedrich Alfred Krupp, child of the founder of the great German steelworkses, established him to Capri at the end of last century.
The gardens, built on the ruins of ancient Roman installations, they were from him given to the Commune in Capri that, subsequently you/he/she has entitled them to the Roman emperor. In an angle of the garden you/he/she has recently been erect a monument to Lenin, work of the sculptor Manzł, in memory of his stay to Capri.

Villa Jovis
The greatest imperial villa of the island, made to build from Tiberio to the beginnings of the The sec. AD, scoperta nel '700 sotto Carlo di Borbone. The first exploration happened in 1827; I dig it was, then widened in 1932-35 by A. Maiuri, that it brought big part of the native complex to the light, on an area of 7.000 mqs.; the gardens of the villa had to cover, in origin, the whole hill.

Villa St. Michael - Axel Munthe
It was built by the physician and Swedish writer Axel Munthe author of the known novel" You history of St. Michael." The villa was built transforming a simple rustic house and an ancient chapel elegantly devoted to S. Michele on ruins of epoch decorated augustea, that testify the presence in that place of a sumptuous residence.
And an imposing construction of great stylistic liberty, surrounded by a vast and well taken care of garden. And of ownership of the Swedish foundation Munthe and it is open to the public: preserve, in a suggestive atmosphere, many heirlooms of his/her founder, furniture rustic and ancient and innumerable pieces of excavation.

The Blue Cave
The existence of the Blue Cave is revealed in August of 1826 by the August German writer Kopish that it described of it, for the first time, the extraordinary beauty. Since then the Blue Cave represents the emblem of the island in Capri; but the enchantment of this place has well more remote origins; the cave in fact it was already known in Roman epoch as they show the ancient statues found again on the backdrop. Such recovery, the presence of a particular plan of landing and the interventions in the underlying burrow, allow to imagine an ornate natural cavern of statues: a ninfeo prepared around the intense and bright blue of the sea that anchors today fascinates the visitors. The cave was note to the capresis with the name of Cave Gradola, from the neighbor port of Gradola, but you/he/she was avoided because of ancient legends that wanted her/it populated of witches and monsters.
The fortunate coincidence of conditions geologiche and speleologiche you/he/she has created the double spell. The solar light, penetrates from a hollow subaquea and through the sea water, it creates a blue reflex that illuminates the cavern.
